Terms, refunds and privacy

What this is

AFKBID is a public leaderboard of startups at afkbid.lol. A startup earns one point for every second a visitor keeps the page open while rooting for it. Anyone can add a startup for free, and anyone can root for any startup on the board, including one they do not own.

Points can also be bought at a fixed published rate. That is the only thing sold on this site.

What this is not

Stated plainly, because the name is a joke and the format invites the wrong assumption:

• Not an auction. Nothing is bid on and nothing is won. Buyers are not competing for a limited item, and no purchase is ever outbid, refunded or lost because somebody else paid more. Every buyer receives exactly the points they paid for, immediately, whatever anyone else does.
• Not a game of chance and not gambling. There is no randomness, no wager, no stake at risk and no prize. What a given amount buys is published in advance, shown before payment, and identical for everyone.
• No prize, reward or payout. Ranking first confers nothing but the position itself. No money, goods or services are awarded to any position at any time, and points can never be exchanged, transferred or converted back into money.
• Not an investment. Points have no monetary value, cannot be resold and confer no ownership or claim of any kind.

The leaderboard is promotional placement. Buying points buys visibility on this page, in the same way an advertisement buys visibility, and nothing more.

What you are buying

A quantity of points, at a fixed rate shown on the page before payment. At the time of writing, one cent buys six points. You choose the amount; the number of points and the resulting position are displayed before you are sent to the payment page.

Points are added to the startup you have selected, which may not be your own. Choose carefully: points are credited to that startup and cannot afterwards be moved to another.

Delivery is immediate. Points are credited as soon as the payment processor confirms the payment, normally within seconds. There is nothing to download, ship or activate.

By paying you expressly request immediate performance and acknowledge that, once the points are credited, you lose the right of withdrawal that would otherwise apply to digital content under EU consumer law.

Payments are handled by Stripe. This site never receives or stores your card details.

Refunds

Points are delivered instantly and consumed on delivery, so purchases are final and non-refundable once credited.

Two exceptions, both honoured without argument:

• You were charged and the points never arrived. Write in with the payment reference and you are refunded in full, or the points are credited, whichever you prefer.
• You were charged twice for the same purchase. The duplicate is refunded in full.

If a startup you paid for is later removed from the board for breaking the rules below, the points are not refunded — the removal is caused by that startup, not by this site.

Refund requests go to the address in the last section. Expect a reply within a few days.

Using the board

Adding a startup is free and unmoderated at the point of submission. The following are removed on sight:

• Anything illegal, or a link to it.
• Sexual content, harassment, hate speech, or content targeting a private individual.
• Malware, phishing, scams, and deceptive links.
• Impersonation of a person or company you have no connection to.
• Automated submissions, or any attempt to inflate points other than by keeping a tab open or buying them.

Entries may be removed or edited at any time, without notice and without refund of any points bought for them. If a startup was added by someone else and you want it taken down, write in and it will be.

Rate limits apply to submissions and sessions. One tab per person counts at a time; opening more does not earn more.

The site is provided as it is, with no guarantee that it will be available, accurate or preserved. It is a side project. Points, positions and the board itself may be reset or discontinued.

Privacy

What is stored

• What you submit: the link you add, plus the name, description and icon read from that page. All of it is public by design.
• Your IP address, held in memory only, to apply rate limits and to count one burning tab per person. It is never written to the database and disappears when the session ends or the server restarts.
• Payment records: the payment identifier, the amount and the startup credited, kept as proof of purchase. Card details are never seen by this site.
• Nothing else. No account, no email address, no password, no advertising or cross-site tracking cookie. The only browser storage used is a local note of which startup this tab is rooting for.

Third parties

• Stripe processes payments and receives what it needs to do so.
• DataFast provides privacy-focused visitor analytics, without cookies.
• Google serves the small site icons shown beside each entry. Requests are proxied through this server, so your browser never contacts Google for them.
• The site is hosted in Germany on a Hetzner server.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask what is held about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. In practice there is very little: write in and a submission will be removed, along with anything attached to it. Payment records are kept as long as accounting rules require.

These terms are governed by French law. Nothing here removes any right you hold as a consumer that cannot be removed by agreement.
